National survey results released by MGH - a marketing firm - revealed how heavily TikTok impacts the travel and tourism industry. TikTok has become a social media giant with 150 million U.S. users (a little less than 50% of the entire U.S. population!). It has even turned into the go-to search engine for Gen-Z over Google and YouTube.

Let’s dive deeper into the finding of MGH’s survey.

In the national study of TikTok users, 60% said they have become interested in visiting a new destination (city, beach, park, etc.) after seeing a TikTok video about it. People are not only bookmarking these locations; they are taking trips to them. 35% of U.S. TikTok users - or approximately 52.5 million people - have traveled to visit a new destination (city, beach, park, etc.) after seeing a TikTok video about it.

While Gen-Z is TikTok’s largest user base - Millenials are the generation most influenced by the social media site when making travel plans. 45% of U.S. TikTok millennials (aged 25-44) surveyed have traveled to a new destination they saw on TikTok.

While TikTok’s future in the U.S. is uncertain it is clear that marketers, hotels, and tourism boards will continue to use the social media channel to get discovered.
